Heather Miller is currently in her 15th year of teaching students about music. As a graduate of Jacksonville State University she has been teaching students in private and public schools in Georgia. Since opening LGHS in 2009 her students have participated in GMEA All State Bands, District Honor Bands, Solo and Ensemble, UGA JanFest Honor Bands, UGA Summer Institute Bands, Reinhardt University Honor Bands, Jacksonville State University Honor Bands, GMEA In-Service ensembles and various communities activities. Graduating seniors have gone on to become members in many college music programs such as Georgia Tech, UGA, Georgia Southern University, Jacksonville State University, and also community theaters and ensembles. In her free time Ms. Miller enjoys tooting her own Horn at First Baptist of Atlanta with Worship and Celebration Orchestras as part of their music ministries. She is a native of Jones County, GA and has a wildcat of her own, Oreo!
Head Guard instructor: Kate-Lynn Loper is the mother of 1 and resides in Peachtree City. She has the pleasure to tech at Locust Grove and direct for 2 seasons as well.
She marched in Northgate High School’s Viking Color Guard for 8 seasons. She competed in the SAPA circuit where she placed first her sophomore year. She was in leadership her final year of high school when the marching band won Grand Championships at Newnan High School. She also had the opportunity to march in the DCA group Atlanta CV. Assistant Guard instructor: Christa Anderson Christa is a LGHS graduate of 2019 and currently on the GA State Panther Guard. He attended Locust Grove High School his freshman year, participating in GMEA Honor band and Jacksonville State University’s Honor band. He graduated from Tift County High School, later attending Valdosta State University for a B.A in Music Education. He’s participated in numerous Jazz Bands, orchestras and other musical groups throughout his career such as the Atlanta Falcons Drum-line ‘15 and Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps ‘16. Currently still a student at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, his other hobbies include playing guitar and collecting comic books. Drum Major instructor:
Matt Ford serves as a drum major and band leadership coach in the Southern Crescent area. As a three-year drum major for Mount Zion High School ('93-'96) and for two years with the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps ('99-'00), as well as a staff member for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Marching Band ('98-'00), Matt has extensive personal experience in on-field leadership and conducting. His instruction experience includes serving as a lead clinician and staff-member for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy ('98-'10), associate staff for the Jonesboro and Ola High School Marching bands, and private drum major coach for many other schools like Milton High School, Union Grove High School, Berkmar High School, Lassiter High School, and others. Matt currently pastors Restoration City Church in Hampton, Georgia, a church he planted in 2012 and enjoys teaching, coaching, playing video games, and writing books. Music Arranger Zack Davis :
Zack Davis is originally from Talladega, Alabama. He now resides in San Antonio, Texas. Zack has studied Music at Jacksonville State University and The University of Texas at San Antonio. His primary instrument is French Horn. Zack is also a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha. During his time in Phi Mu Alpha, he served as President and Fraternal Education Officer. While attending JSU, Zack participated in the JSU Marching Southerners where he held the position of Mellophone Section Leader from 2012-2016! This will be Zack's 10th year assisting with the Locust Grove Band in which he has served as Band Camp Staff and Arranger in the past. He's very thankful for all that he has learned from Ms. Miller and also thankful for her guidance throughout his musical career. |
